Case studies

Ignivara iQ engagement

A UK language-services company

Situation
The client planned to expand its AI use, including building in-house agentic tools to automate workflows and client services.
What I did
Discovery and workflow-by-workflow AI use mapping (tools, use cases, data flows, output review and ownership) using Ignivara iQ’s AI use mapping and inventory tool, with gaps assessed against current law, future obligations and client contract terms.
Findings
28 potential gaps, including against the EU AI Act and ISO/IEC 42001, raised for management decision.
Outcome
Each item was worked through. A remediation roadmap sets out how the contractual and regulatory items will be closed, giving the client an evidence base for client and tender due-diligence questions and a governed footing for expanding AI use.

Earlier work, with Hippo Digital

A major UK consumer-rewards brand

Situation
Twelve data domains had no agreed ownership, leaving a six-month backlog of ownership decisions. To accelerate the work, the team had begun using public GenAI tools, creating a live customer-data exposure risk through unsanctioned AI use.
Role
Business analyst on the data governance workstream, tasked with clearing the ownership backlog while removing the exposure risk.
Solution
In place of a ban, I designed and built a secure GenAI decision-support service in Python on the OpenAI API, giving the team equivalent capability within defined controls:
  • PII detection and blocking before any request reached the model
  • Prompt design constraining the model to the decision-support task
  • Structured outputs
  • Access to results restricted to nominated data owners
  • Access provisioned only after sign-off of a usage playbook
Testing
Adversarial testing with seeded personal data to verify the PII controls held, alongside user testing of output quality.
Outcome
Exposure risk closed and the ownership backlog cleared. Resolution of contested decisions reduced from months to days across 20 senior stakeholders, with the capability moved from shadow AI to a governed service.

I am a business analyst rather than a software engineer. The value I bring is defining the guardrails a service needs and specifying them precisely enough to be built and tested.

Outcomes

Major UK consumer-rewards brand

  • A “data passport” checkpoint cut ambiguous data-quality issues entering the enterprise catalogue by more than half.

NHS England, £1bn clinical communications programme

  • Cut departmental onboarding from one to two weeks to under 24 hours.
  • Operating-model blueprints showing around 30% delivery cost savings.
  • Service-assessment frameworks embedding legal, regulatory and clinical thresholds into build or no-build decisions.

FCO and FCDO

  • Introduced NLP into a closed, security-controlled environment for the first time, with self-built, security-vetted tooling.
  • Built an NLP remediation tool that flagged more than 20,000 instances of non-inclusive terminology across technical repositories.
  • Led digital resilience testing that validated 2-second incident detection and escalation routing.

Hippo Digital

  • Restarted a stalled GenAI adoption initiative across the Business Analysis function and took it through discovery and use-case prioritisation to a pilot.

Recognition

  • 2018 Technology Innovation in Business Award

For a life-saving digital service credited with supporting more than 500 emergency interventions.

  • 2021 Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Enabler Award

For initiatives widening routes into technology leadership for women.

  • Recognised by the FCDO’s Director General of Technology

For a new operating approach in sensitive delivery environments.

Peter combines strong technical ability with a real understanding of what clients need. He built such a strong relationship with our NHS client that when he was due to move on, they asked for him to stay. … What set Peter apart was how seriously he took user research. … The result was something that genuinely worked for its users, not just something that met the specification.
